Tell Congress to Support Your Right to Record

People are exercising a basic First Amendment right when they film, photograph or livestream government corruption or violence in public places. Time and again, courts throughout the country have recognized that we have this right to record — and it’s time that Congress does too.

This is about our basic freedoms of speech and assembly: Tell your lawmakers to support legislation that protects our right to record government officials, including ICE agents and other members of law enforcement.

To Members of Congress:

Assembly matters. Press freedom matters. Access to information about our government matters. Our rights to speak and associate freely matter. Dissent is a tool for justice. Filming government acts — through recordings, photographs and other forms of streaming — should be a protected First Amendment right.

This is about upholding our basic free-speech rights. Support a right-to-record statute and ensure people’s right to film government officials in public spaces.
